Finding Mr. Right

This is more a spillover of a conversation had with an friend. We were talking about "ol' Mittens" (that's what we call him out here) throwing his hat into the ring and declaring his bid to become President yesterday.

The first thing that came up was what a farce this could all turn out to be. Allow me some un-PC amnesty here for a minute but.. here we go, in our "white bread rich-fatman right-wing christian" nation launching into a presidential campaign that's already got a woman, a black man and now a mormon. It's like one of those jokes, you know, where a priest, a rabbi and a vicar go into a pub...

Maybe it's good to remember that California, bless it, leads the way in such things and the Gubernatorial race a few years back we had every hoo-haa (thank you Florida) and freakworm crawling out of the woodwork to declare.

OK, amnesty over. I am not getting after any one who has declared so much as looking at what it says about the country. We never find the middle ground, we always swing huge orders of magnitude. Now there will be endless conversations about 'trusting' a Mormon in office, or a woman or even more shocking.... someone who may have a different color of skin. Bizarre that if we were all in the dark we wouldn't see such a silly little detail. Under his skin his organs are the very same color as mine, his blood and guts are the same. Growing up in a much more 'settled' country (regarding the race question) I am still shook a little when I see it become an issue. But that is a whole 'nother issue so I'll leave it there.

And what the fuck is the 'race question' or issue anyway?

So, the question... finding Mr. Right. The conversation was about Hillary and who she would pick to be the VP on her ticket. That has to be one of the trickiest jobs to accept in the history of politics. In an America that is still very chauvinist and patriarchal in many of it's institutions as well as national psyche what man will step *up* only to settle for 2nd place in the whole thing.

I know for some reading this it wouldn't be such a case, but to the general populace raised with the idea that you either come first or lose, that there is no 'second place', what man will step forward to be the 'bitch' to Hillary's "Patten"? Whoever it will must consider that it might stump his own chances at furthering their career after such an appointment to go for President after serving under a female Potus.

The question of the first "First Husband" isn't really an issue by comparison, it would be a quaint thing to politely laugh at over lunch with friends and let's face it, Bill Clinton has *proven* his masculine tendencies so he's not in line for the "Mr Mom" label.

That's why the issue of who Hillary picks (or rather for the guy who accepts) the Veep place is so critical. It might be the making or breaking of her bid.

So who does she need? Who is Mr. Right for Hillary Clinton? A little bit of John McCain? A little bit of John Edward's charm and shiny, smiling face? A little bit of Barak's 'edgeyness' to balance out the McCain conservatorial anchor? Yup, whoever he is, he is gonna be one interesting character.

Or not. As it may turn out, perhaps the choice will come down to a 'door opener' in both senses of the word. Someone who will enable her to open the door to the opportunity through connections, respect or power... and a door opener in that that may be his ultimate presence quotient.

Ever remember the face of a concierge or a waiter? OK, maybe some you do for totally different reasons than their prowess at serving your meal or holding a door and hailing a cab for you.

But generally, you forget them if you are not seeing them. Someone who fades into the background. Someone who would let Hillary be Hillary without adding their own flavor.

I doubt it can be Barak, although that has been talked about in other blogs and sites, I just think that combination is one ticket that's loaded too far out to the edge for the American public to accept. I would be surprised if it was Edwards, he looks too energetic and set on his own to hitch his wagon to Hillary's horse.

The idea of a cross-aisle companion isn't out of the question, but with Hillary being the current en vogue spelling for 'anathema' to republicans I doubt that one too. Liberman would be an albatross around her neck as far as her fellow Democrats are concerned.

If Al Gore runs it will be for Al Gore. Feyngold? Dunno. Other names, like Brad Henry or Phil Bredesen have come up, both of whom are governor and "southern Democrats" as labels go.

Whoever he is, he is out there.

But I do feel confident saying 'he' as a double female ticket again would be too much for the American public (sadly) to accept at all. So that puts paid to the idea that Pelosi would run with Clinton... I have visions of two race-horses in one stable kicking the shit out of each other.

And that thought brings me back again to the idea of a meek character. That line about the racehorses is from an Episode of a British comedy and the dialog goes on to say what a racehorse needs is some little donkey to keep it company, to not be in competition with the horse, to be a nice little 'stable mate'.

So, how will America take to a man who will have to be, be his very nature, not 'ambitious' as we have traditionally seen? Who will be seen in the eyes of the general public somewhat subservient to a woman, and who will have to forge a 'bond' with that same woman that will have to show intimacy but in such a very appropriate way.

It's a shame it has to be reduced to such levels, but it's an indicator of the minds of the LCD in our country today. She will have to avoid a 'husband', and find someone who is halfway 'father' and somewhat 'brother'.

I'll say this for you Hillary, you sure know know how to enter a party and have everyone look! Good look on the Dating Game Mrs. Clinton...

On Another Note...

And Jesus, but you should have seen some of the things that came up when i went searching for the holding hands pic and put the word 'interracial' into google. That'll teach me.

Oh, you thought this post would be about Valentines Day and romance... hmm... right.
